Toby has once again proven that he is the No.1 Pure English sire for 12 month growth in New Zealand

In the DEERSelect growth rate statistics released on 1st December 2010 Toby is again well ahead of all other English sires in New Zealand with a W12BV of +10.9.

Toby is an important and versitle sire for the industry with his excellent growth rates, body type, temperament and heavy antler.

Continuing a history of producing the best stags in New Zealand for growth we are pleased to announce a new number one on the European and Composite Sires list from the DeerSelect Breeding Values released 14th April 2010.

With a 12 month growth rate of +30.5 young sire Voltamir has moved well ahead of any other sire in New Zealand.

Coming in 2nd with a 12 month growth rate of +25.8 Atlas continues to be a strong performer.

And once again topping the English Sires list is Toby with a 12 month growth rate of +14.3 - consistently the top English stag for growth in New Zealand.

In addition to these outstanding growth rates, all three of these sires has an excellent temperament which is a strong trait in their progeny.

This was awarded in recognition of Peel Forest Estate's commitment to proving environmental and production systems while using innovative technique for the long-tem benefits of the industry.

The judges were impressed by the extensive amenity plantings on the property, which provides a sheltered environment for sustainable productons.

As well as this they were impressed with the total commitment to mitigate negative environmental issues associated with farming activities.

They noted amongst so many features the quality of the stock , their background and care:

• The impressive stream realignment and restoration of waterways; including extensive double fencing of waterways and conservation of wetlands, improving water and soil quality.
• The excellent use of genetics to increase production, improve the quality and marketable traits of deer throughout the deer industry and the total commitment to breeding resilience to Johne's diseas.
• The more intangible but very significant contribution to indurstry promotion, excellence in performace and Graham Carr's personal contributions to industry events and the public face of Deer Farming.

Announced on 1st April 2010 Graham Carr, Peel Forest Estate is the winner of:

2010 NZ Farm Environment Award Trust Livestock Award

The judges made the following comments:

• Modern breeding programme & broad genetic source a combination that has resulted in very high quality stock.
• Animal welfare & health high priority: non slip matting in deer shed, excellent laneways ensure efficient stock movement.
• Recorded world class genetics: working with scientific community to breed Johnes resilient deer.
• Excellent shade & shelter creating a natural environment for deer: water ways and wet areas protected.

It has been a fantastic year for the Peel Forest Estate Stud with some very noteable accomplishments.

Atlas is again the No. 1 European and Composite growth rate stag in the industry. The third year in a row that he has held this spot at 1st December with a current W12BV of +25.1.

TOBY is again the No. 1 English growth rate stag in the industry. The second year in a row that he has held this spot at 1st December with a current W12BV of +11.8.

And to top off a great year - a son of Major Peel was taken as a trophy overseas earlier in the year and is the Official World Record at 621 SCI.

These are truely rewarding statistics - and we are very pleased to offer our clients access to all of these genetics in the 2010 Elite Stag Sale.
