Vension operations running hinds in foothill and hill country need a female (maternal line) capable of wintering under adverse conditions by carrying good body fat cover going into winter and having the hardiness to maintain good body condition throughout.
Being able to wean a large fawn early in March every year, and quickly returning to an acceptable body score, and conceiving in the short period between weaning and mating ticks all the above boxes.

We have targeted certain sires which carry the important production traits which we believe are necessary in the maternal hind. Although growth rates are important in any female - other production traits are just as important.
The sires we have selected have adequate growth rates plus the constitution, resilience and carcass conformation - which when bred to a quality terminal sire will produce superior progeny for a profitable venison operation.
